First of all I want to make it absolutely clear that this is real natural stone veneer and not to be confused with artificial stone veneer or man made stone veneer and a host of other names of imitations stone veneer.
You asked, what is it? It is really quite simple, we took the real river rock stone that is a smooth worn stone and quarry stone and cut off the workable face and discarded the bulk . This cuts down on the massive weight, and the excessive wide joints are no longer mandatory. Now, you have a natural real stone veneer that can be quickly worked into your stone fireplace, stone home exterior, stone gates & pillars as well as interior stone applications. You have an option of bulbous look with deep set joints or flat mirror tile look but most of all, you have a unique real stone project the way it is suppose to look.
In the stone masonry field our cut stone veneer has a little different twist.
The application of Cut River Rock or our Cut Field Stone and Quarry Stone Veneer is a little different, the biggest noticeable effects are the light weight of this stone veneer and in the application the smoothed cut back creates a masonry suction effect making a better bond. The light weight of this stone veneer is within the building code and weights about 13 pounds per square foot, and well under the maxium code requirements of 15 pounds per square foot. Cut River Rock stone veneer is lighter than the cement manfactured stone veneer, particularly the corners. So there is no worry for a weight problem, any place that can accept the artificial manufactured stone veneer can certainly withstand Cut River Rock real stone veneer.
Stone veneer from Cut River Rock comes two forms, River Rock, which is obtained from glacial drifts (gravel bars) not stream beds. Fieldstone is what it says, it is from the farm fields. Fieldstone veneer is a little different, it tends to be a little more coarser and the river rock stone veneer is smoother texture. The quarry stone veneer is a little different again in that the edges of the stone tend to be a little sharper except when field stone is used.
The sheer beauty of real stone veneer, whether it is Cut River Rock or Cut Fieldstone can not be over exaggerated and it is certainly not duplicated by artificial. You only have to look into this real stone veneer and you'll see things like conglomerate, a mixture of reds, grays, greens, whites, congealed together. The next stone may be gray drooling with white streaks of quartz and another may possibly have fossils of ancient times or still the next may have iron pyrite crystals, or maybe fools gold. While still another could have silver and gold flecks of mica and the list goes on, gray granite, red granite, black granite, white granite, sandstone, white quarts, agithize stone and the list goes on there are no two the same.
Our river rock stone veneer comes in a varitey of colours. First and most popular is the Multi-colours, Charlotte County white/grey granite. Old Homestead. Multi-colour granite. All our stone veneer is cut to a thickness of from 1/2 inch to 2 1/2inches thick. The diameter is from 4 inches to 14 inches, the length is from 4 inches to 24 inches. The larger sizes are rather rare. the common size is 6 to 10 inches, and of course are irregular shapes.

Our quarry stone veneer is exactly the same look as you will see on the basements of old homes. It is also very common on the foundations of the homesteader barns built before the turn of the century that are very common through out the country sides of Ontario, Quebec and New England. The high quality of stone masonry that is expressed in some of these historical sites is easily achieved with our Real Quarry Stone Veneer.

Quarry stone veneer is cut similar to our River Rock stone veneer. A slice is cut off the face of a rectangular to square block of stone. The slice will be from 1inch to about 2 inches thick. It can be up to 20 inches long and up to 12 inches wide. The edge of this stone veneer are slightly worn or a bit blunt as often seen on the foundation stone where square faced fieldstone were used. Some stone are a little sharper on the edges as are expected in new breaks on stone.
Like the old barns and home foundations, the colour varies from stone to stone at present our quarry stone veneer is multi-colour which you will see many shades of grey-white granite, dark coloured sand stone, also light reddish granite. No white quartz coloured agate type stone are used for this stone veneer.
Although this is cut stone veneer, all caution is used not to have a sawn cut edge exposed when installed. This is achieved by cutting part way through and breaking off the piece of stone veneer. This stone veneer is primarily rectangle to square with angle pieces used where necessary such as to compensate the slope of roofs. When we install this quarry stone veneer, great care is taken to arrange the large quarry stone with the smaller stones. There are special wedge stones cut 1 inch thick and wide up to 12 inches long. These veneer stones are purposely inserted to fill a gap as is seen on the old farm and historic foundations. Each stone is set in with full back or mortar and not necessarily brought out to the edge. One can have a deep set joint or a full joint.
Deep set joint, is stone veneer set with raked out joints or no to little visible mortar. Full joints, are joints filled to the edge of the stone veneer with mortar. When the mortar is set up just right, the access is swept off after is is pressed into the joint and leaving you with a clean mortar free stone veneer project that is exactly the same as the fine stone work done by the old journeyman stone masons from Europe, which is pretty much a lost art.
